Arentshof and the environment

The name Arentshof refers to the last owner. It is a sort of courtyard, weIl suited to the mansion. The park features a group of statues symbolising the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Behind, there is an idyllic tableau showing two fighting cherubs, who represent War and Peace.

Fresh fish is sold every day at the Vismarkt (Fish Market) under the watchful eye of former mayor Frank van Acker. The Huidenvettersplein was the tanners' area. These were the tradesmen who turned animal hides into leather. Their activities are depicted in the tympana over the door of the hotel, next to the tanner's guild houses

The Markt (Market) is the social and economic heart of Bruges. Markets have been held here for a thousand years now. It is an important meeting place, and the square provides a splendid backdrop for historical parades and processions. The view from the Markt is dominated by the Hallen (Market Halls) with their tower. the Halletoren.
